In these unsettling times, a letter of support and reassurance may be very well received by your EU citizen employees.

We recently wrote a letter to members of our team who will be affected by Brexit. Along with the letter we also included some great support leaflets from the employer toolkit on the Gov.UK website.

Some of your employees are probably already aware of the steps they need to take and may have already started the process towards their settled status for themselves and their family members. However, you may also have someone in your team who is struggling to get their head around it and are left wondering what their future looks like or if they even have a future with your organisation.

We have prepared a template letter for you to use below. Simply amend to fit your needs and use the links below to the downloadable employer toolkit on the Gov.UK website.

Sample Letter

Dear (Employee Name)

I am writing to you in relation to your EU citizenship and your employment here at (insert company name)

Firstly, we understand that this is an unsettling time for our EU citizen employees. With the uncertainty of the Brexit deal decision we wanted to reach out to you and reassure you that we are in full support of you continuing your employment here at (insert company name) and will be here to help you where we can through this time.

As I am sure you are aware, if you are an EU citizen, you and your family members need to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme to continue living in the UK.

The EU Settlement Scheme allows you and your family members to get the immigration status you will need to continue to live, work and study in the UK.

This status means that you continue to be eligible for:

• Public services, such as healthcare and schools
• public funds and pensions
• British citizenship, if you want to apply and meet the requirements.

I have enclosed in this envelope some information packs which I think you may find useful. This has the links and support details you need to make your application and contact details of the services that can help you with this.
